ANACONDA — The Ronan High School volleyball team finished its season with back-to-back losses in the Montana Class B Divisionals at Anaconda High School.

The Maidens lost their first match to Eureka (21-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 15-10).

“We missed 17 serves in the game against Eureka and gave them the advantage they needed to win the match,” Maidens’ Coach Charla Lake said. “A few less missed serves and that match might have been ours.”

The Maidens were carried by Lee and Alicia Camel who had 24 of the team’s 27 kills against Eureka.

“Those two really worked hard in the front row for us,” Lake said. “We played aggressively but let down at times, and let Eureka dictate the outcome of the match.”

Rhylee Burland finished with seven aces in the third set to help them capture the set but the Maidens just couldn’t close the match out, according to Lake.

In the Maiden’s next match they fell 25-17, 25-7, 25-10 to Thompson Falls.

“We started out the match well and we took a 9-3 lead but lost momentum,” Lake said. They were able to chip away at our 6-point lead and they just took over. Thompson Falls played well at the net, frustrated the Maidens, and knocked down our confidence. We struggled in our serving this weekend and that has always been the key to our success. We have some amazing servers (on our team).”

The Maidens were led by Lee Camel, who finished with 12 of the team’s 23 total kills. Camel had two of the team’s four blocks, and Shaina Snyder finished with 18 assists and 18 of the team’s 61 digs in the loss.
