ISSAQUAH — Ephrata allowed goal in the third minute and couldn’t recover against Liberty, losing its state tournament opener 3-0.

The Patriots blitzed the Tigers early and scored off a cross and strike from big sister Makena Carr to little sister Myka Carr. Myka carr added another goal in the 22nd minute and Ephrata entered halftime down 2-0.

Bekah Schmuck attempted to get the visitors on the board in the 62nd minute, but her long attempt was saved.

Kaylyn Gill scored the clincher for Liberty in the 66th minute.

Liberty moved on to play either White River or Ridgefield in the state quarterfinals.

With only two seniors on its roster, Makayla Towry and Jayda Harman, Ephrata will look to be a fixture at the top of the CWAC and make a return trip to the state tournament in 2017.

9 Huskies all-league in football

Othello led local CWAC teams with nine all-league selections.

The Huskies had a resurgent year, falling in the GNL crossover game to West Valley 21-6. Othello had five offensive selections: Reese Jones (running back), Trevor Hilmes (running back), Asai Villarreal (half back), Miguel Garcia (tight end) and Kyler Villarreal (wide receiver).

Jones was first team while Hilmes, Asai Villarreal and Kyler Villarreal were second team. Garcia was honorable mention.

Defensively, Micah Giles (corner back), Collin Freeman (safety), Phil Pruneda (defensive tackle), Garcia (inside linebacker) and Sam Azevedo (outside linebacker) made it for Othello.

Garcia was first team ILB and was the only Husky to be named all-league on both sides of the ball. Giles and Pruneda were second team; Freeman and Azevedo were honorable mention.

Othello was won the Sportsmanship award.

Quincy had three selections and first-year head coach Wade Peterson was named Coach of the Year.

Safety Travis Harris was honorable mention, defensive tackle Rey Rubio was second team and kicker Kevin Rios was first team.

Ephrata had two selections: Zac Berryman and Josh Benthem. Berryman was honorable mention half back and honorable mention outside linebacker. Benthem was honorable mention punter.

Selah’s Peter Kuhn was the Offensive MVP and Prosser’s Kolby Swift was the Defensive MVP.

Big Bend ends season with loss

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend lost its season finale to Spokane in three sets 25-21, 25-14, 25-17.

Big Bend’s lone sophomore Brittany Hosley, playing in her last game for the Vikings, had 14 digs.

Maddy Powers led the Vikings’ attack with seven kills. Jacinda Fansher had five kills and two digs.
