The mystery photo: The Smart Funnel.

Last week a kitchen tool was featured as a mystery photo in this column. It was the Smart Funnel and is used when the contents of two bottles need to be combined.

Example: After a breakfast of French toast, one bottle of syrup is emptied and a second one opened. The first bottle still contains a small about of syrup.

Instead of throwing the first bottle away, attach the Smart Funnel to the just-opened bottle and attach the old bottle to the top part of the funnel, upside down. The first bottle will drain into the second bottle.

Not sure where Garnet and I obtained this item, but it works great. Any slow-moving liquid, such as syrup, vegetable oil, mustard, catsup, olive oil, et cetera can be used with this tool. It will work on larger bottles, as well.

There is no reason to stand by and watch or hold a bottle. Just set the bottles in place and let the drain begin. Check the bottles in a few hours or overnight, when the drain is complete.

From the Columbia Basin Herald on July 10, 1952:

Lunsford wins A-Main event in stock races

Les Lunsford (98) of Ephrata took the A-main event in Sunday’s stock car races on the Legion Speedway, before a fair sized crowd that stayed in their own cars to get out of the dust.

Digger O’Dell (88) came in second followed by Histon Robinson (19) of Quincy, Roy Fuller (8) of Moses Lake and Louie Vitolo (77) of Soap Lake.

A Soap Lake man, Chuck Frazer, took the B-main, with only four cars running, following by Jack Sitton of Wilbur.

Best time was Curt Elshire’s, followed by Buzz Reed and Wayne Gardner. Eishire took the trophy dash to add to his points. Heat winners were Harold Chapman, Vitolo and O’Dell. The track was fast, smoother than before, with more work promised before the July 20 race. The Columbia Basin Stock Car Racing Association plans races here every other Sunday for the rest of the summer.

How to prepare and cook a wild turkey

Two tagged turkeys were in back of the Ram, now what? My wild turkeys are skinned after a successful hunting trip. This year the procedure was changed a bit.
