FEDERAL WAY — Moses Lake was able to reach the consolation final in the 200 freestyle relay at the state swim meet after some near-misses in earlier events.
The relay team comprised of Cora Dana, Anna Fair, Ashley Madrishin and ShyAnne Speed placed 13th overall with a time of 1 minute, 45.13 seconds — more than half a second faster than their seed time of 1:45.88.
Moses Lake could have had more of a presence on Day 2 if not for a tight race in the preliminary of the 200 medley relay. The Chiefs placed 17th — one shy of the final consolation final spot nabbed by Olympia.
Olympia’s time of 1:57.22 was just over four-tenths of a second faster than Moses Lake’s time of 1:57.63.
Madrishin — the anchor of the team — swam a split of 26.24, but was unable to catch up to Olympia’s Ashley Yen who swam a 26.61.
Fair placed 21st and 23rd in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, respectively. The junior finished her fly in 1 minute, 2.10 seconds. Her seed time of 59.62 seconds would have qualified for the consolation final. Fair finished her backstroke in 1:04.58.
Cora Dana took 22nd in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.67 seconds.
Skyline edged Wenatchee for the 4A team title with 243 points. The Panthers amassed 232.
Moses Lake came away with eight team points.
Liberty of Renton won the 2A team title and Lakeside of Seattle beat Bellevue by 10 points to claim 3A.
