A self-inflicted, accidental shooting over the weekend led to the death of a Libby man.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office call logs, Lincoln County Deputy and Libby City Officer responded to an accidental gunshot wound in the Libby area on November 12, 2016 at about 9:47 p.m.

A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release on Nov. 14 said that James Metts, 56, was moving several firearms out of his residence when a revolver being moved discharged, striking Metts in the leg and severing an artery.

Emergency personnel were on scene minutes later and transported Metts to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

Metts did not survive his injuries.
