ROYAL CITY — The Royal City Council received an update on the repair of problems at city well No. 3 at its meeting Oct. 18, and it included a total cost estimate of $90,000.

Blue Star Enterprises of Richland, which was contracted in an emergency move by the Council when the well went down, said the $90,000 will bring the well back on line.

When well No. 3 went down, it left the city with only one operating well for potable water. Repairs for well No. 4, which went down much earlier, have long been discussed by the Council.

According to City Finance Director Greg Pike, The City has been notified that some of the costs will be reimbursed by its insurance company. The Council authorized Mayor Kent Andersen to sign the proposal from Blue Star Enterprises to repair Well No. 3.

In other public works news, the Council learned that some funds awarded for planning of the ultraviolet facility are available. The Council authorized Gray & Osborne Engineering of Yakima to perform design work.

Pike informed the Council that the City was reimbursed for Officer Fitzhugh’s salary while in academy training as part of the state’s small city reimbursement program.

The Council authorized Andersen to sign the agreement between the City of Royal City and the Grant County Health District with a contribution of $1 per city resident per year

The Council approved a consent agenda that included the Council meeting minutes of Oct. 4, a payroll of $22,280.22 and claims totaling $28,719.83.
