MOSES LAKE — Made in Moses Lake, in the Smith-Martin Building downtown, offers a variety as vast and wide open as the Columbia Basin itself.

Moses Lake – the town – features a community rich with agriculture, aerotech, food processing and data processing.

Made in Moses Lake – the store – showcases the artistic community, featuring homegrown, hometown decor: stuff made right here, as the name would indicate. There is the handmade glass art of John Church and Kathleen Parr. There’s alpaca garments and accessories from Chris and Diana Jimenez, who formed Spirit Dancer Alpacas in 2008.

They have work by Donna Legler, who does glass flowers, bird feeders and other crafts in her Unique Designs by Donna operation. They also have the JDS Custom Wood work of Jim Smart and Rubbish Rampage by Melinda Henry.

“This lady came in today and said, ‘I didn’t realize there was so many artists in Moses Lake,’” Jimenez said. “She assumed all this was a world product. I told it was made right here. She was really excited to see the different variety we have. It’s all unique; every piece is different.”

Made in Moses Lake is a melting pot of creative design and thought. Its artists have created holiday decor like wreaths, ornaments and so on, baby-related items, hair accessories, knitted hats, collectible figures, horseshoe art, candles, homemade jams, candies, and salsa.

“Everybody is creative enough in their own way that we all bring something different to the shop,” Jimenez said. “It helps the whole group of us. We all contribute accordingly to the business process. It’s really cool, because you can walk in here and notice things that are unique, that you’ve never seen before.

“It also lets people know there is a lot of artistic talent in town and we all promote each other’s work.”

In fact, that is the spirit of the Smith-Martin Building, Jimenez said. The business lineup is as mixed and unique as any in the community. Selection ranges from coffee shops, hair salons, marketing and design, to massage and more.

“I love this location. When people come in, they tend to stay in the building. Whether they come in for coffee, then they see the fountain and walk down to see what’s that’s all about,” Jimenez said. “We all promote each other. We want to make sure that when you come in here that you see everything there is to offer. It’s like coming into Made in Moses Lake, there’s something for everyone.

“It’s a collage of you-name-it. I’m sure that you can find whatever you’re looking for somewhere in the Smith-Martin Building. It’s a great place for unique gifts for the holidays.”

As America takes advantage of the post-holiday sales, whether it’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday, Made in Moses Lake will take center stage.
