EPHRATA — A Oregon man will be spending almost 29 years behind prison bars for sexually assaulting his four-year-old daughter.

Jonathan Hawkins, 34, of Creswell, Ore., was previously convicted of two counts of first-degree rape of a child and one count of first-degree child molestation at the culmination of a bench trial in September. The rape of a child charges carried a standard sentencing range of 162 to 216 months, while the molestation charge carried a standard sentencing range of 98 to 130 months. Grant County Superior Court Judge David Estudillo imposed high end sentences of 216 months for one of the rape charges and 130 months for the molestation charge, with the sentences set to run consecutively for a total incarceration time of 346 months. Estudillo imposed a 216-month prison term for the other rape charge, which will run concurrent to the other two charges.

Hawkins was initially charged back in 2015, after the Moses Lake Police Department received information that Hawkins had described to a friend, via Facebook, sexual misconduct involving himself, his wife, Caitlyn Hawkins, 29, of Creswell, Ore., and their four-year-old daughter.

Caitlyn Hawkins previously entered an In Re Barr plea to two counts of second-degree child molestation (accomplice) and was sentenced to 41 months in prison in connection with the case. An In Re Barr plea indicates the defendant is stating they are not guilty of the crime they are pleading to and there is no factual basis for the charge, but they believe there is a substantial risk of being convicted if the case were to go to trial.

The Hawkinses were staying at a motel in Moses Lake when police were initially made aware of the allegations, due to Jonathan’s job an as egg grader. Upon being questioned, Caitlyn Hawkins described her home life as being very “open” in nature.

“As an open family they do not keep secrets and everything is in the open, to include what they do and their bodies. They do not wear clothes at home but do put some on if people come over, someone knocks on the door, or they go out in public,” wrote an officer. “The majority of the time they are all nude at home.”

She also described occasions in which the victim inappropriately touched her husband. Jonathan Hawkins made several statements to police in which he described his daughter inappropriately touching him, but he claimed the girl initiated the contact.
