STATE GOLF: Polson boys, Whitefish girls finish 2nd

HAMILTON — The Polson boys and Whitefish girls each finished second at the Class A state golf tournament on Saturday at Hamilton Golf Course.
Polson’s Carson McDaniel finished in a tie for third place with Laurel’s Paul O’Neill, carding a two-round score of 157 after a 6-over-par round of 78 in the second round. Matt Hobbs finished in a tie for ninth at 161 and Trey Kelley a tie for 11th at 162 with Whitefish’s Brendan Buls.
Hamilton’s Max Toenjes was awarded medalist honors, finishing with a two-stroke victory at even par 144.
Hamilton also took the boys team title at its home course, edging Polson by 14 strokes with a team score of 637.
The Whitefish girls fell 21 strokes short of state champion Sidney. The Bulldogs placed three in the top 11, led by Gracie Young in eighth shooting 181. Holly Hileman finished ninth at 183 and Haley Hileman in 11th at 186.
Glendive’s Breilyn Riggin won medalist honors, carding a 163.
Polson’s Kiyara McCue finished 13th with a 189.
