The top seed in the 5A Region 1 girls soccer tournament, which starts Saturday, is still up for grabs.

Coeur d’Alene (8-2-1, 4-1-0 5A Inland Empire League) can wrap up the league title and the top seed to regionals with a win at Lake City (7-3-2, 2-1-1) on Thursday.

However, Lake City can win the league title with a win Tuesday at Lewiston (3-1-1 league) and a win over Coeur d’Alene. And Lewiston could win the league by beating Lake City, and if Lake City beats Coeur d’Alene.

And don’t ask about ties.

Coeur d’Alene beat Lake City 1-0 last Monday at home. Lewiston has split with Coeur d’Alene and tied Lake City.

Post Falls (2-10-1, 0-6-0) is the No. 4 seed and will travel to the No. 1 seed in the first round on Saturday. Also that day, the No. 3 seed will play at the No. 2 seed.

The regional championship game is next Tuesday, and the state play-in game is the following Saturday.

Upon further review, Lake City’s boys (4-6-1, 2-2-0 5A IEL) can win the league title by beating Lewiston (1-4-0 league) at home on Tuesday and winning at first-place Coeur d’Alene (6-0-5, 3-0-2) on Thursday. Coeur d’Alene would need only to tie Lake City to earn the top seed to regionals.

Post Falls (5-2-5, 2-2-2) is done with league play.

The No. 4 seed visits the No. 1 seed, and No. 3 travels to No. 2, in Saturday’s first-round games at regionals. The championship game is next Wednesday, and the state play-in game is next Saturday.

The 3A District 1 boys and girls soccer tourneys begin Saturday at Lakeland.

Bonners Ferry’s boys (5-4-1, 5-1-1 Intermountain League) and Timberlake (9-2-1, 5-1-1) are tied for first place with one league game remaining. Bonners holds the tiebreaker, with a win and a tie vs. Timberlake during league play.

Timberlake’s girls (9-1-1, 8-0-1 IML) have clinched the top seed to districts. Coeur d’Alene Charter (9-3-1, 7-1-1) will be the No. 2 seed.

Timberlake has a win and a tie vs. Cd’A Charter during league play.

In volleyball, Timberlake (12-4, 5-0 IML) can wrap up the league title and No. 1 seed to regionals with a win at Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-4 IML) on Tuesday and a win vs. Priest River (3-2 IML) on Thursday.

Many local volleyball teams are in the field for the Linda Sheridan Classic in Spokane, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

In high school football, league play for most teams begins this week, with Coeur d’Alene (3-2) at Lewiston (6-0), and Post Falls (5-1) at Lake City (3-3) on Friday in 5A IEL openers.

In soccer, North Idaho College’s men and women play Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday night at Spokane Falls Community College, with the women’s game at 5 p.m. and the men at 7:15.
