Whitefish poised for more annexation

The process of annexing another 44 parcels of land into the city of Whitefish begins tonight as the City Council considers adopting a resolution of intent to annex 82.7 acres of wholly surrounded land.
In July the city annexed a number of West Lakeshore area properties. The Houston Drive area on East Lakeshore Drive is targeted for annexation, but has been held up by litigation.
The city now has its sights set on a number of parcels on Ramsey and Fraser avenues. The properties are scattered through Whitefish, however. On the list are properties on U.S. 93 South, O’Brien Avenue, Voerman Road, Tides Way, Baker Avenue, Colorado Avenue, Creek View Drive and other isolated parcels.
The “wholly surrounded land” method of annexation found in state law is being used to bring the properties into the city.
A public hearing on the proposed annexations is planned Nov. 21. Notices should be sent to each affected property owner and occupant.
In other business, the city staff is recommending the council authorize staff to work with First Interstate Bank, Glacier Bank and bond counsel Dorsey and Whitney to proceed with a private sale of bonds up to $880,000 for a parking structure special improvement district.
The council’s work session at 6:15 p.m. also is related to the forthcoming parking structure. The council will discuss parking lease rates and the number of lease parking spaces in the parking structure.
Both the work session and regular meeting at 7:10 p.m. will be held at the interim City Hall, 1005 Baker Ave.
