The Alzheimer’s Association Washington State Chapter is hosting a town hall-style meeting Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene.

Local panelists will highlight state and federal issues important to the community, including the challenges facing unpaid family caregivers, who care for 80 percent of people with dementia.

Community leaders and members are invited to attend the meeting from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Lake City Center, 1916 Lakewood Drive. Admission is free and no registration is required.

This event is one of 14 being held across the region to educate community members on the the Idaho Alzheimer’s State Plan.

“These town halls are an effort to continue the attention of state officials to the importance of addressing the challenges of better supporting people with Alzheimer’s and those who care for them,” said Executive Director Bob Le Roy.

The State Plan will help public and private sectors organize to address the growing population of diagnosed individuals in Idaho. It addresses meeting the needs of caregivers, reducing stigma associated with dementia, raising awareness, increasing availability and affordability of long-term services and it also supports increasing the quality and availability of paid aides.
