Laura Jean Love Holt, 93
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 years, 7 months AGO
After 93 years on this Earth, Jean passed peacefully into eternity on Sept. 29, 2016. Laura Jean Love was born on April 7, 1923, in Red Lodge, Mont., to Charles and Grace Love. She was the fourth of 12 children and the last to leave this world.
The Love family moved to Arlee, Mont., where Jean met Edward Holt while she was waiting tables after school. They dated and then wrote letters when Ed enlisted in the Army and he was taken prisoner during World War II. Graduating from Arlee High School in 1941, Jean moved to the Seattle area to do her part in the war effort by becoming one of the Rosie the Riveters working at Boeing. Following many of her siblings, she joined the service as a Marine in 1944. One of her favorite memories was being stationed in Hawaii. She was discharged in March 1946. She moved back to her family in Arlee where she married Edward Woodrow Holt on April 14, 1946.
Being an Army wife, Jean enjoyed traveling the world and lived in Oregon, Washington, the Philippines, North Carolina, Tennessee, California, Alaska, Massachusetts and Ethiopia, finally settling in the Wolf Lodge area of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1962. She eventually went to nursing school and graduated in the first LPN Class from North Idaho College. Because she always loved babies, she spent 10 years working in baby nursery at Kootenai Medical Center. Retiring from the hospital, she also worked for a couple years at the Tree Nursery in Coeur d’Alene. Jean was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Post 889 and was the first female post commander in the state of Idaho as well as District Commander.
Her hobbies included gardening, bowling, pinochle, penny ante poker with family, gold panning in Montana, bingo, gambling and seeing her family.
Jean and Ed had four children. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Jean in 1983 and her husband of 62 years, Edward, in 2008.
Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Myrna and Lynn Rasmussen; daughter and son-in-law Christi and Bob Kuchenski; son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Jodi Holt, all in the Coeur d’Alene area; as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene. Please visit Jean’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
