Babies' birth months mirror Main Street

In a decidedly unscientific exercise, I noticed that most of the Main Street birthdays, out of nearly 2,000, seem to be in September or October. So I did a little Google research and found that my list of local birthdays mirrors somewhat the actual birth stats in America. Of the 4 million babies born here annually, the top two birth months are August and September with July and October rounding out the top four. Most of us think that springtime is the time babies are born in masse but we’re wrong.

The most likely day for babies to be born? Tuesday. The newest member of the Main Street Birthday Club is already at the head of the class, statistically speaking. Ozrik Dolphin Hutchison was born on Tuesday, October 4 to Camille and Derek Hutchison of Coeur d’Alene, joining big brother Hazen.

Ozric’s middle name is in honor of Derek’s Marine Corps buddy, SSgt. Patrick Dolphin, who was killed in action on July 31, 2011, while serving in Afghanistan. A touching tribute, Semper Fi.

For most of his teen sons’ lives, Brian Walker has been on the reporter’s beat, covering news in the community. But this past Friday night he was in the role of proud parent with his wife, Kim, while Nathan and Casey made a little hometown news.

PFHS senior son, Nathan Walker was crowned Homecoming King at halftime and PFHS junior son Casey was lighting up the football field on the way to a 37-6 win for the home team. One of Casey’s special teams plays made the KREM 2 Friday Night Football highlight reel, as he pinned the opponent deep in their own territory ... preventing a touchback with a diving swat of the ball and then scrambling to his feet and tackling the returner.

The night will no doubt be part of the Walker family’s highlight reels for years.

Along with the aforementioned homecoming king Nathan Walker, Jessica Zazuetta was crowned homecoming queen at Post Falls High School. At Lake City High School the homecoming crowns went to Rusty Dan and Madeline Hennig. Congratulations to all!

And more from The Press newsroom staff, who share some quirky and quick humor, Marc Stewart sent out a Facebook S.O.S. on Monday night. He said he had a pipe leaking inside the walls of his home, dripping through the ceiling. He was searching for plumber recommendations from his friends. City Editor Maureen Dolan commented tongue-in-cheek on the post with a question, “Did you turn off the water?” Another friend asked how many reporters it takes to turn off water, to which Maureen responded, “Reporters never turn off water. We love leaks!” Ba dum.
