The Columbia Falls girls soccer team had a tough time in a 2-1 loss to Whitefish last week, but played much better in a tie 1-1 on the road against Polson.

The Wildkats are now 5-4-1 (2-3-1) heading into the last week of the regular season. The Kats beat Libby Tuesday 3-0. They then travel to Bigfork Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

The girls are assured a playoff spot, but will have a tough draw — having to travel to the No. 1 seed in the east in the opening round.

Still, after a string of injuries, the young team is coming together at the right time. They have freshman Josie Windauer on offense — providing much needed depth and defenseman Kendra King, who got banged up earlier this season is much healthier.

Against Whitefish, the girls played the Bulldogs to a draw at the half, but then gave up two goals in eight minutes. Still, they never gave up, scoring in the last two minutes to cut the deficit in half. The game may have ended in a tie, but the Kats had a couple of point-blank shots that went over the net.

Aginst Polson, coach Greg Trenerry said the team played well defensively.

“Our defense played hard the entire game,” he said. “Keeper Madeline Jarvis had some great saves.”
