The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious shooting that occurred Thursday.

An 18-year-old Kalispell woman was found at 6 p.m. with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to Sheriff Chuck Curry. Curry said the victim was found in a location off U.S. 2, just to the east of Kila.

“She was found outside,” Curry said.

She was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery. She was later transported to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle where she remained in critical condition on Friday.

Curry said the victim’s name is not being released because it is unknown if the gunshot was self-inflicted or caused by someone else.

“We have not been able to interview her,” Curry said.

The case remains under investigation and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office says more information will be released when it’s available. Deputies have already conducted several interviews in the case, but anyone with more information is asked to call the detective division of the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office at 758-5600.
