A man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol for a sixth time after allegedly taking out a guardrail in a Saturday crash.

Alex John Jungwirth, 31, is set to be arraigned Oct. 21 before Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy for a felony driving under the influence of alcohol charge.

According to court documents, Jungwirth was allegedly found in a truck that had crashed through a guardrail and severed the barrier on Montana 83 near the intersection of Landmark Lane at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Jungwirth allegedly smelled of alcohol and refused to give a name, before telling officers that his name was Ben. An officer located his driver’s license. An open container of beer was allegedly found in the vehicle.

Jungwirth allegedly had slurred speech, blood-shot eyes and refused to comply with officers as they tried to administer field sobriety tests. Jungwirth allegedly refused to provide a breath sample, was uncooperative and answered most of the officers’ questions by swearing.

Jungwirth was taken to Flathead County Detention Center, where he remained as of Wednesday.

According to court documents, Jungwirth was convicted of driving under the influence in 2015, 2011, 2008, and twice in 2007.

In the 2015 case, Jungwirth was stopped for going 50 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone in Polson. He also gave the investigating officer a fake name, fake date of birth and fake Social Security number in that case. Jungwirth is still on felony probation for the 2015 conviction.
