Troy football motions toward 8-man division

Class C 8-man football is on the table for Troy High School.
Athletic Director Jeff Hawk spoke about the proposal during a meeting in the school’s library on Tuesday evening.
Hawk said the Troy Public Schools board will consider two options at its 6 p.m. meeting on Monday in the high school library. The school district can petition for only football or all sports, he said.
Hawk said that if the district petitions for inclusion in all sports, it might only be accepted for football.
“This has been in the works for a couple years,” he said. “We’re already preliminarily approved.”
High schools with enrollment from 65 to 130 students can petition and will be approved, he said, noting that Troy High’s average enrollment the past two years has been 131 students.
Schools that are 10 percent over the threshold can petition to be included in a different class.
There are a lot of schools struggling to get an adequate number of football players out, he said.
There generally is more scoring in 8-man football.
If Troy were accepted for Class C 8-man football, they would compete with Drummond, Plains, Arlee, Superior, Charlo, Darby, St. Ignatius, Seeley-Swan and Victor.
