BONNERS FERRY — Allison Warner had eight kills and 11 digs to lead the Wampus Cats, who stole one set in a 25-19, 25-13, 18-25, 25-20 loss to 3A Bonners Ferry on Thursday Night in nonleague volleyball at Bonner Ferry High School.
Hailey Bristol added eight kills and two blocks, Brooke Stevens 20 assists and two blocks, and Nona Young and Emily Garman combined for 19 digs to lead the 1A Wampus Cats (9-8), who once again played up in class this season.
“There’s not much we can do with Miranda Wenk on the other side. She’s just amazing,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr of the talented Badger outside hitter, adding the competition readies her team for state. “They weren’t playing on call cylinders, but they were playing tough. We have to play the best ball at districts to get to state.”
It was Dig Pink Night, with both teams wearing pink jerseys, as money was raised from the fundraising night. In a classy gesture, Derr made a rag quilt and donated it to be auctioned off during the game, and it raised $150 dollars for the cause.
“It was about honoring people with cancer,” said Derr. “All the money raised goes to their cancer center, and that’s pretty cool.”
