POST FALLS — A fundraiser for American Legion Post 143 Commander Dennis Wheeler, who was injured in an auto accident in July, will be held on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Legion, 1138 E. Poleline Ave.

The event will feature live music, a live auction, food and raffles.

Wheeler, along with two other Legion officers, Chuck Buttz and Doug Wheeler (no relation to Dennis), were returning from the state convention in Moscow when the vehicle they were in rolled along U.S. 95 south of Coeur d'Alene.

All three occupants survived. Buttz and Doug Wheeler were treated and released from the hospital. Wheeler was airlifted to Kootenai Health, where he spent nine days.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will assist Wheeler with his medical costs.

"The medical bills beyond what insurance has covered are monumental," a press release states.

Monetary donations are being accepted at any local Washington Trust Bank under the Dennis Wheeler Benevolent Fund.
