Helen Arlene Boyes, 100, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away Oct. 4, 2016. Helen was born on May 1, 1916, in Harrison, Idaho, to James and Alice (Wygent) Madson.
When Helen was 8 years old, the family moved down the river by steamboat to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she lived most of her life. Helen worked as a young girl for her father who owned the Madson Box Factory in Coeur d’Alene. She met her future husband, Bill, while working there, and they were married in 1936. They had 70 years of married life before Bill passed away in 2006. Helen and Bill had two children: a daughter, Allis and a son, Jim.
Helen and Bill were caretakers at Camp Mivoden on Hayden Lake for many years. Helen was also a cook’s helper at Walla Walla General Hospital for a short time before they traveled around the conference repairing parsonages. On their vacations, they helped build churches for the Seventh-day Adventist community around the United States. Helen loved playing the piano and taught lessons to many. She also played the organ for The Christian Church in Coeur d’Alene for many years.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Bill and her son, Jim. Surviving Helen is her daughter, Allis (Rex) Rickey of Spokane, Wash.; two granddaughters, Angela and Tessa; two grandsons, Arlen and Trevor; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, with a graveside to follow at Prairie View Cemetery, 7190 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene.
