Workplace Watercooler: China trip info meeting set at Chamber

After deeming this year’s Kalispell Chamber of Commerce-hosted trip to China a success, the chamber is now preparing for its second voyage.

The chamber will hold an informational meeting on the “Experience China with the Kalispell Chamber 2017” trip from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Kalispell Chamber boardroom. The meeting will discuss the 10-day trip in April, which travels from Beijing to Shanghai, with a variety of cities and stops in between, including the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and more. Same as the trip earlier this year, the chamber is also planning a briefing with U.S. Ambassador to China Max Baucus at the Embassy in Beijing.

The trip in total costs $2,499, including round-trip airfare from Seattle, Chinese airfare, hotels, meals, tours and entrance fees to attractions.

Chamber luncheon to feature state tax and healthcare

The Evergreen Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly luncheon on Oct. 26 at Snappy’s Sports Senter. The program will focus on recent IRS and Montana tax law changes, as well as health care changes and their affects on business.

Steve Stahlberg and Kristi Taylor, CPAs from Stahlberg, Taylor and Associates P.C., will host the informational program, which begins at noon. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

The Evergreen Chamber asks attendees to RSVP prior to Oct. 19. Vista Linda will cater the event with a potato bar.

Columbia Falls Chamber luncheon Tuesday

The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce’s October luncheon will center on Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. and the Superfund process on Tuesday at the NVH Teakettle Room on Nucleus Avenue.

Robert Moler, community outreach coordinator for the Environmental Protection Agency and Steve Wright of CFAC will present information to the membership regarding the recent listing of the Columbia Falls Aluminum Plant on the National Priorities List as a Superfund site. Topics include current work on the property, and what can be expected in the near and distant future.

An optional lunch will be available for $12 by Tea Kettle Café. Reservations are not required.


MWED offers business model workshop

Montana West Economic Development will host “The Business Model Canvas” workshop on Wednesday at the MWED headquarters in downtown Kalispell.

The workshop is an entrepreneurial tool that helps identify a plan that is right for each business and provides a way to explain that plan to others.

The workshop is free, and runs from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.


SBA veteran’s business workshop coming to Kalispell

The Small Business Association is hosting a two-step training program called “Boots to Business Reboot” on Oct. 17, providing participants with an overview of business ownership as a career. The program will also discuss the components of a business plan, practical exercise in opportunity recognition and introduction to available public and private resources.

The Veterans Business Outreach Center, SBA and partner programs will instruct the course, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Gateway Community Center in Kalispell.
