Berths to the state high school boys and girls soccer tournaments will be decided this week.

5A boys and girls teams who qualify will stay close to home, as the state 5A soccer tourneys are Oct. 20-22 at Coeur d’Alene, Lake City and Post Falls high schools.

The 5A Region 1 girls soccer championship game is Tuesday, with No. 2 seed Coeur d’Alene (9-3-1) playing at No. 1 Lake City (10-3-2) at 3:30 p.m. The winner advances to state; the loser meets the fifth-place team from District 3 (Boise area) in a state play-in game Saturday at noon PDT in Payette.

The 5A Region 1 boys soccer title will be decided Wednesday, when No. 2 seed Coeur d’Alene (7-1-5) travels to No. 1 seed Lake City (7-6-1) for the championship game at 3:30. The winner advances to state; the loser meets the fifth-place team from District 3 in a state play-in game Saturday at 2 p.m. PDT in Payette.

The 4A Region 1 boys soccer tournament begins today, with No. 3 Lakeland (3-10-2) visiting No. 2 Sandpoint (9-3-4) at 3:30. The winner plays at No. 1 seed Moscow on Wednesday at 3:30 for the regional title and the lone berth to state next week in Idaho Falls.

The 4A Region 1 girls soccer tourney begins Tuesday, with No. 3 seed Moscow playing at No. 2 Lakeland (8-7-1) at 3:30 p.m. That winner plays at No. 1 Sandpoint (5-5-5) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for the regional title and the lone berth to state next week in Idaho Falls.

Semifinals in 3A District 1-2 boys and girls soccer are Tuesday at Post Falls High.

In the boys tourney, it’s Bonners Ferry vs. Orofino and Timberlake vs. St. Maries, both at 2 p.m.

In the girls tourney, it’s Timberlake vs. Kellogg and Coeur d’Alene Charter vs. Priest River, both at 4.

Semifinal winners advance to the title games on Thursday, at a site and time to be announced.

Both girls’ semifinal winners automatically qualify for state next week in Twin Falls. The loser of the boys’ district title game will go to Lewiston for a state play-in game Satuday at 3 p.m. vs. the third-place team from District 4.

In volleyball, Lake City can clinch the 5A Inland Empire League championship with a victory Tuesday at home vs. second-place Coeur d’Alene. The 5A Region 1 tournament begins Saturday, with the championship match slated for next Tuesday.

On Friday, league play continues in high school football. In the 5A Inland Empire League, Lake City travels to Coeur d’Alene, and Post Falls plays host to Lewiston. In the 4A IEL, Lakeland is home against Sandpoint.
