Fatal crash in Post Falls

A driver was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of West Prairie Avenue and North Pleasantview Road in Post Falls.
The driver’s name was not immediately released by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, nor was the name of the driver of the other vehicle, who was transported to Kootenai Health with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash was reported to the sheriff’s office at 3:20 p.m., and roadways remained blocked at 5:30 at the intersections of Highway 53 and Pleasantview, Prairie and Beck Road, Pleasantview and Poleline, and Prairie Avenue and Corbin Road.
“Roadways should be cleared and opened back up by 7 p.m. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until that time,” said the sheriff’s office’s press release.
The intitial investigation indicates a 1988 Jeep Cherokee was traveling south on Pleasantview and collided with a 2001 four-door Oldsmobile, according to the sheriff’s office.
Witnesses at the scene said the Oldsmobile attempted to make a left from eastbound Prairie to northbound Pleasantview pulling directly in front of the southbound Jeep.
The driver of the Oldsmobile was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Team was called out to conduct the investigation.
Names of the drivers are being withheld until notifications are made.
