UPDATE: Labrador follows challenger and issues statement on presidential race

U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador’s opponent in the general election thinks the congressman needs to take a stand on Donald Trump.
“Three days have passed since a recording surfaced of Donald Trump making vulgar comments about sexual assault and women,” said a Monday press release issued by Democratic challenger James Piotrowski’s office. “Over the weekend, nearly every Republican lawmaker up for re-election has either rescinded their endorsement of Trump, or at least condemned the comments. All except for Congressman Raul Labrador.”
The press release included this tweet from 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney: “Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America’s face to the world.”
The release noted Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo withdrew his support of Trump while Rep. Mike Simpson reiterated he never supported Trump in the first place.
“Donald Trump’s comments condoning sexual assault against women are disgraceful,” Piotrowski said. “I am appalled and saddened that this election cycle has sunk so low. Some things are above politics, and no reasonable person can tolerate this type of language and conduct from someone seeking to represent our nation.”
A recording said Labrador’s office was closed Monday for Columbus Day. A reporter’s call to Labrador’s press secretary was not returned.
