HAYDEN — The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputy whose patrol vehicle struck and killed a 38-year-old Hayden woman early Saturday was identified on Tuesday as 33-year-old Andrew Nye.

Nye has been employed at the KCSO since 2009.

Amber E. Viuhkola was identified on Monday as the Hayden woman who was struck and killed by the deputy's vehicle as she was walking across U.S. 95 at Miles Avenue around 1:35 a.m.

Viuhkola identified herself as a stay-at-home parent on her Facebook page.

There is no crosswalk or traffic signals in the area where the accident occurred.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

It was overcast early Saturday, so visibility may be among the factors considered during the investigation, according to Idaho State Police. There's limited lighting — from adjacent businesses — where the accident occurred and it's not as well lit as major intersections in the U.S. 95 corridor.

According to ISP, Nye was southbound on U.S. 95 in the right lane at Miles in a 2008 Crown Victoria Saturday when the accident occurred.

Viuhkola died on scene.

Those who witnessed the incident are urged to call ISP at 209-8730.

Toxicology results are expected to be released in about three weeks.
