L-C State’s Orlandi, Tackett named

preseason All-Frontier Conference

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Two former local high school standouts were named to the Frontier Conference women’s preseason all-conference basketball team.

Senior Caelyn Orlandi and junior Brittany Tackett, both former Coeur d’Alene High standouts, were honored. Both players earned first-team honors last season as well as NAIA All-American honors.

Orlandi was named NAIA second team All-American; earned All-Championship team honors and was a WBCA All-American. The 5-9 guard led the Warriors in scoring last season averaging 13.1 points per contest. She also led the nation in assists with 200. Playing the point for a team that went to the Elite Eight last season, Orlandi’s assists per game ranked third in the NAIA at 6.06 and her 2.22 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked sixth.

A 6-1 junior, Tackett plays all over the floor and was second on the team with 11.7 points per contest last season on the way to being an honorable mention All-American. Her 61.7 percent shooting from the floor was a program record for a single season and would’ve been tops in the NAIA if she were eligible for consideration. She was also the top rebounder for LCSC last season, pulling in 5.2 per contest.

WSU to hold open

PULLMAN — The Washington State men’s and women’s basketball programs will hold practices open to the public on Saturday at Beasley Coliseum, with the men’s practice scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the women’s practice following, around 2 p.m.

Members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be available to sign autographs on the concourse of Beasley Coliseum following the conclusion of the women’s team’s practice. Those in attendance will also hear from head coaches Ernie Kent, in his third year as WSU coach, and June Daugherty, in her 10th year.

WSU AD releases statement

on Coug football player Tago

PULLMAN — Washington State athletic director Bill Moos issued the following statement regarding Cougar football linebacker Logan Tago, who was charged earlier this week with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree assault following an alleged incident in June:

“There has been a great deal of speculation surrounding the status of WSU student-athlete Logan Tago. As I mentioned a few weeks ago when this situation arose, we would wait for the legal process to play out before rushing to judgement. With a felony charge now having been filed, our department code of conduct policy dictates that, absent extraordinary circumstances, student-athletes are not permitted to represent WSU athletics in outside competition until such time as the case is resolved. I firmly believe in the notion that a person is innocent until proven guilty, so while the legal matter is ongoing, Logan will be allowed to practice with the team, though that will be determined by the head coach.

“I do believe Logan to be a fine young man. Unfortunately, it appears during the incident in question he did not represent the high standards we expect from our student-athletes at WSU. As previously stated, we will now see the legal process through before making any further determination.”
