Late voter registration began Wednesday and runs through Election Day, Nov. 8.

Lincoln County Election Administrator Leigh Riggleman said late registrants must register in person at the Lincoln County courthouse, even on Election Day. They can vote in person on the spot or take a ballot home and mail it in or bring it back, she said. Late registrants can also take the ballot to any polling place on Election Day.

The county elections office must receive the ballot by Nov. 8. The postmark doesn’t matter, said Riggleman, who has had her current title for several months but has worked in the elections office for 23 years.

She estimates that some 13,000 voters are currently registered in the county. About 4,000 have requested absentee ballots, which will be mailed out today. The number of absentee ballot requests is “about normal,” Riggleman said.

The county elections office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

It will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
