A decision on whether to petition the Montana High School Athletic Association for Class C status for all Troy sports was tabled on Monday, but the Troy Public Schools Board of Trustees voted 5-0 to ask for 8-man football for the 2017 season.

Troy Public Schools Superintendent Jacob Francom reported the results, and said the school district will seek public comment on inclusion of all sports in Class C at its next board meeting on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.

In the meantime, a meeting to gather public input on a potential Class C petition will be held Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

Francom said the Class C petition was tabled because the Montana High School Association doesn’t vote on 8-man football and reclassification requests until Nov. 24, so there is time to gather public input.

Francom said he is waiting to make a personal recommendation for Class C inclusion until after the Nov. 1 meeting.

Troy High School currently competes in Class B, which includes larger schools, including Libby, Thompson Falls, Bigfork and Eureka.
