Wanner, Whitefish girls pick up cross country titles at Western A Classic

FAIRMONT — Columbia Falls had an individual winner and Whitefish claimed a team title at the Western A Classic country meet on Saturday at Fairmont Hot Springs.
Sage Wanner of Columbia Falls posted the best time of the day, clocked in 16 minutes, 24.1 seconds as he crossed the finish line. Carson Jessop of Corvallis was second, 16:31.1
Corvallis, 35 points, won the team title with Frenchtown, 45, second and Columbia Falls, 92, third.
The Whitefish girls topped the field with a 51-point score. Corvallis, 65, was second and Columbia Falls, 78, third.
Jaycie Schmalz of Hamilton was the top finisher with a time of 19:25.4. Kimberly Peacock of Columbia Falls was second, 19:28.8.
The season concludes on Saturday in Kalispell with the all-state meet at Rebecca Farm.
