Chiefs fall in shootout

SPOKANE — Caleb Jones scored the lone goal of a shootout for Portland in a 3-2 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League play in front of 7,008 at the Spokane Arena on Saturday.

Spokane took a 1-0 lead after the first period as Koby Morrisseau scored his first career goal. Portland tied it at 1 on a goal by Ryan Hughes in the second period.

Curtis Miske scored on an assist from Kailer Yamamoto 7:25 into the third period, but Cody Glass — who leads the league in scoring — scored his sixth goal of the year for Portland to send it to overtime.

Dawson Weatherill had 28 saves for Spokane (2-4-1-1), which moved in front of Seattle for fourth place in the U.S. Division.

Spokane hosts Everett on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
