PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City, Lewiston to meet for Region 1 title

COEUR d’ALENE — Ashley Kaufman had 10 kills and two aces, and Arlaina Stephenson also had 10 kills as the top-seeded Lake City Timberwolves beat the No. 4 seed Post Falls Trojans 25-21, 26-24, 25-17 in the first round of the 5A Region 1 volleyball tournament Saturday at Lake City.

Klaire Mitchell had 32 assists and two aces for Lake City (21-1), which will play host to No. 3 seed Lewiston (24-7) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the championship match for a berth to state. Lewiston upended No. 2 Coeur d’Alene in five sets on Saturday.

Reilley Chapman had 14 digs for the Timberwolves, and Tessa Sarff had four blocks and two aces.

“I like how our team keeps rising to the occasion each match,” Lake City assistant coach Renee Bordelon said. “I thought we played well; I thought Post Falls played the best they’ve played all year. They were digging everything.”

For Post Falls (18-15), Allison Munday had 12 kills, Kayla Mayo 15 assists, Courtney Finney 11 assists, Sydney Parks four blocks, Macky Morris 12 digs.

“We played with a lot of grit today,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “Our girls played as a team and battled hard. Lake City is a very talented and well-coached team. I felt we matched them blow for blow. On a couple plays we lost focus but were able to battle back. With a team as good as Lake City you can’t afford to make too many mistakes.”

The Trojans play at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday at 7 in a loser-out match.

Lewiston d. Coeur d’Alene

COEUR d’ALENE — Less than 48 hours after Coeur d’Alene won 19-17 in the fifth set at Lewiston, the Vikings fell to the visiting Bengals in another nailbiter, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 15-13 in a first-round match at the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Ali Williams had 28 kills and 19 assists for Coeur d’Alene (17-10), which will host Post Falls on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a loser-out match.

Kelly Horning had 16 kills and four blocks for the Vikings. Isabella Hollibaugh had 28 assists and two aces, Sam Swayze 20 digs and two aces, Carli Daniels 11 digs, Elly Schraeder four blocks.

“Another great match vs. Lewiston,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. “We gave them too many unforced points in games 2 and 3. We clean that piece up and I believe we win the match.”

For Lewiston (24-7), Maddy Skinner had 13 kills, Kendyll Kinzer 12 kills and four blocks, Maddy Murphy 28 assists, Peyton Ely 14 assists, Hannah Lien 23 digs and four aces.

St. Maries d. Grangeville

GRANGEVILLE — Devyn Wilson had 18 kills and Kelsey Auer had 35 assists and two blocks for the Lumberjacks in a 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20 win over the Bulldogs in a Central Idaho League match.

St. Maries (14-14, 3-1 CIL) finished tied for the league lead with Orofino, but won a coin toss to earn the top seed to the 2A District 1-2 tournament starting Tuesday at Genesee High.

“We moved the ball around a lot today,” St. Maries coach Rachele Asbury said. “It was a great team effort.”

Kaylee Auer had two blocks and Makenna Borgman 12 digs for St. Maries.

Cd’A Charter d. Wallace

COEUR d’ALENE — Jackie Callahan had five aces and nine digs for the Panthers in a 25-21, 25-16, 25-22 win over the Miners at Holy Family Catholic School.

Nicolle Young had eight kills, Chloe Turnbull five kills and Emily Burt three kills and seven digs for Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-10).

“We started off a litlte slow, but eventually got our offense going,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Taylor Wilkinson said. “Jackie did a great job spreading out the offense and getting all of our hitters involved.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter plays at Kellogg on Monday in a 3A District 1 tournament match starting at 5 p.m.

Wallace will face the third-place team from the District 2 tournament on Thursday at Coeur d’Alene High at 5 p.m.

Lakeside d. Genesis Prep

POST FALLS — Rachael Arthur had six kills and six aces for the Knights in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-13 win against the Jaguars in a North Star League match at Post Falls Middle School.

Sarah Daman had seven digs and Alyssa SiJohn 34 assists for Lakeside (10-4, 7-3 NSL), which finished the night serving 93 percent as a team.

“For the most part, we just kept them off balance with our serving,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “Rachael has been getting better with her timing and she was able to put a few more balls down tonight.”

Genesis Prep (3-8, 3-7) will host Mullan in a 1A Division II District 1 tournament match on Monday at Post Falls Middle School.

Lakeside returns on action on Wednesday against Clark Fork in a 1A Division II District 1 match at Timberlake High in Spirit Lake.

N.I. Christian d. Christian Heritage

COEUR d’ALENE — Kaylee Prosch had six kills and eight assists for the Royals in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-13 Mountain Christian League win against Christian Heritage at Holy Family Catholic School.

Grace Gipson had eight assists and four aces and Melanie Lund eight digs for North Idaho Christian (8-6, 4-3 MCL), which plays at Christian Center of Hayden on Monday.

Timberlake at Lakeland
