The Libby High cross country team performed well at the Western B divisionals on Thursday at Rivers Bend Golf Course in Thompson Falls.

Senior Colin Maloney had the best individual finish for the Loggers, placing third with a time of 17:25.

The boys placed fifth as a team with 121 points behind Ronan, Eureka, Anaconda and Loyola.

The girls placed third with 75 points behind Bigfork and Eureka.

The girls were led by sophomore Lauren Thorstenson’s eighth-place finish in 20:42. Sophomore Miklayn Zeiler placed 11th in 21:23.

“The team did a great job at understanding placing and fighting the entire race,” coach Rodd Zeiler said, noting that the course it tough and has a number of hills and turns. At every turn, his runners were leaning forward, he said.

The team, which includes a lot of new runners, is “peaking perfectly,” he added.

“They did extremely well for the amount of experience they had.”

The Loggers will run at the state meet on Saturday at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell.

Other individual times from the divisional include: boys, 11) Tim Goodman, 18:16; 22) Michael Diller, 18:31; 38) Niklaus Gier 20:07; 45) John Cheroske, 20:52; 52) Masin Payne, 22:56; 53) Kaleb Lindgren, 27:34; girls, 24) Annie Berget, 23:34; 28) Sidney Stevenson, 24:31; 37) Kyla Cady, 26:31; and 44) Maryssa Sanderson, 29:33.
