SANDPOINT — With each team featuring a top runner and quality depth, the Bulldog boys and girls will be vying for their fourth straight Regional championships and team state berths today at Farragut State Park.

The girls 4A race starts at noon, with the varsity and JV fields running together with designated varsity scorers, while the 4A boys race will start at 12:45 p.m. with the same format. The Sandpoint coaches are excited about the new combined race structure District 1-2 has adopted, which is how it’s done in other parts of the state.

Leading the favored Bulldog girls is top runner Katherine Kaul, who will joined on the varsity lineup Hannah Davidson, Rainey Woodward, Dana Beaty, Niah Brass, Sharon Rowe and Heather Wallace. Kaul, a junior, will be chasing one of the top runners in the state in Moscow’s Katherine Ruck.

The Bulldog girls have won two of the past three 4A state titles, barely missing 3-peat last fall on the same course they’ll be running on today, and will use the race as a tune-up for another run at a title.

As he has all season, Fin Lund-Andersen will lead the varsity boys, joined by Cole Dillon, Reilly Wolfe, Clay Rasmussen, Peik Lund-Andersen, Riley McGinnis and Sloan Woodward. After Fin Lund-Andersen, it’s a tight pack of runners capable of high finishes.

The Bulldogs also hope to contend for the JV team titles in the same races. The top seven JV boys are Ephriam Weisz, Story Crossett, Gabe Merithew, Dutt Rogers, Kyle Almeida, Garrett Pierce and Wyatt Hagen.

The top seven JV girls are Farli Boden, Chloe Braedt, Mesa Keating, Corina Wallace, Paige Davidson, Erin Meek and Chloe Pierce.
