COEUR d’ALENE — Muganza Katanga and Alec Maldonado scored in the first 28 minutes for the Cardinals in a draw with the Hawks in a Northwest Athletic Conference match at Eisenwinter Field.
“We defended a lot in the opening minutes and created some good opportunities,” NIC men’s coach Ken Thompson said. “We had some good crosses from Cobi (Brewer) and Max (Mularski) and they did a good job of finding targets and getting the ball to the scorers. There was definitely some good play there and both teams created some good opportunities.”
Columbia Basin evened the game in the 49th minute on a goal from Jorgan Marin.
“We did have a great chance in the final three to four minutes,” Thompson said. “Garrett Flolo crossed the ball into (Jose) Perez and he made good contact with the ball, but just didn’t put it on goal.”
NIC (5-7-4, 5-5-2 NWAC) hosts Walla Walla on Saturday.
Columbia Basin is 4-5-6, 2-5-5.

COEUR d’ALENE — Meg Lowery scored her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute, but a late goal by the Hawks resulted in a Northwest Athletic Conference draw at Eisenwinter Field.
“I didn’t think we played particularly well today,” NIC women’s coach Dan Hogan said. “I think we took it too easy knowing we controlled the game we played in Pasco (a 4-1 in on Oct. 1), but today with the wet and muddy grass, anything could happen.”
