ML searching for youth to serve on parks and rec commission

MOSES LAKE — If you are a youth in Moses Lake who wants to have input on parks and recreation in your community, the city has an opportunity for you.
The Moses Lake City Council recently created a youth commissioner position on the Parks and Recreation Commission at a past council meeting.
“The ML City Council would like to bridge the gap between our local youth and local government by allowing a youth representative to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission, express their opinions, ideas and youth perspective, participate in the decision making process of the commission and raise awareness to local youth of the value of parks and recreational programs,” City Manager John Williams explained.
Prospective representatives on the commission are required to:
• Be a student in the Moses Lake area.
• Live in the city’s urban growth boundary.
• Be between 16 and 22 at the time of appointment.
• Possess leadership skills and a willingness to get involved in community activities.
If appointed to the commission, representatives are required to:
• Be responsible for transportation to and from commission meetings.
• Meet with the parks and recreation director to discuss the items on the agenda.
• Attend all commission meetings and follow the policies and procedures that are in city code.
