The Modern Theater-Coeur d’Alene’s production of the drama “‘night, Mother” opens today.
The show runs through Nov. 6 with shows Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Doors open a half-hour before curtain time.

“‘night, Mother” was written by Marsha Norman and won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The story features Jesse and Thelma, for whom finding order is a challenge as they are unable to meaningfully communicate the importance of living. The despair of loneliness is too much for one to manage. The contemplation of choosing one’s own destiny is explored and ultimately determined.
Marianne McLaughlin (Thelma) has most recently performed at The Modern Theater-Spokane in “The Ladies Foursome,” “Other Desert Cities,” and “The Glass Menagerie.” She has been acting and directing in the Spokane area for more than 20 years.
Emily Jones (Jessie) was last seen in Coeur d’Alene as Pauline in “A Bright New Boise.” Recent Modern Theater roles include the Housekeeper in “Man of La Mancha” and Annette Raleigh in “God of Carnage.” Director Susan Hardie, who hails from New York, has directed or appeared in scores of productions throughout the Inland Northwest. Directing projects include “Fiction,” “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” and the 2013 AACT State Festival winner “The Turn of the Screw” at Spokane Civic Theatre; “All My Sons” and “These Shining Lives” at Whitworth University. Performances include “The Cemetery Club,” “Steel Magnolias,” and the national award-winning “Getting Out.” Susan hails from New York and is delighted to be working with The Modern.
Zachariah Baker (score) is a director, composer, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, actor, educator and athlete. His work has been seen in nearly every Modern production since 2011.
