PREP FOOTBALL: 'Jacks win first league title since '95

ST. MARIES — Kiefer Gibson passed for four touchdowns and 282 yards on 10-of-19 passing, spearheading the St. Maries Lumberjacks to a 32-6 Central Idaho League rout of the Orofino Maniacs in their regular season finale.

It is the first league title for St. Maries since the team went 5-0 and won the Intermountain League championship in 1995.

The Maniacs were outgained by St. Maries, 402 to 79.

St. Maries (8-0, 3-0 CIL) plays in the state 2A playoffs at home on either Friday or Saturday against the District 3’s third-place team, Melba (5-3) from the Boise area.

Orofino is 3-5, 0-2, but still qualifies for the state playoffs, traveling to the District 3 champion.

LEWISTON — Matt Duchow threw for a pair of second-half touchdowns for the Timberwolves in a 5A Inland Empire League loss to the Bengals at Bengal Field.

Duchow connected with Ian Williams on a 12-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and with Nick Goldthorpe on a 25-yard score in the fourth quarter for Lake City, which finishes 3-6, 0-3 in league play. Zane Lettau also scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for Lake City.

Lewiston (9-0, 3-0) will have a first round bye, and host a second round game the weekend of Nov. 4-5.

PLUMMER — Bryar Sanchez had 101 yards passing and Jordan Davison ran for 40 yards for the Knights, which were hampered by turnovers in a White Star League loss to the Mustangs.

Lakeside turned the ball over on its first offensive play from scrimmage, which Deary turned into a touchdown.

The loss eliminates Lakeside (4-4, 2-3 WSL) from postseason consideration.

Deary is 6-1, 5-0.

Lakeside hosts Lewis County to conclude the season next Friday.
