GEORGE — The body of a King County firefighter who was missing since last weekend was found near George on Saturday.

About 4:30 p.m. a man searching for deer found the body of Ken Ward, 43, of Renton, near the Wild Horse Monument along Interstate 90, about nine miles west of George. Ward’s body was reportedly found near his vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was parked near the monument, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Ward was the subject of a statewide search.

Ward’s body is currently in the care of the Grant County Coroner's Office, where an autopsy will be done to determine the cause and manner of his death. Foul play is not suspected.

“The members of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office extend their sincerest condolences and prayers to Firefighter Ward’s family and colleagues,” stated the sheriff’s office on Sunday.
