State high school soccer wrapped up last weekend, and, though they are hundreds of miles away in eastern Idaho, this is the weekend for state high school volleyball tournaments, and the state cross country meets.

In volleyball, Lake City and Lewiston compete in the state 5A tournament at Skyline High in Idaho Falls.

Sandpoint is at the state 4A tournament at Idaho Falls.

Timberlake is at the state 3A tourney at Madison High in Rexburg.

St. Maries plays at the state 2A tourney at Idaho Falls High.

And Kootenai takes part in the state 1A Division II tourney at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls.

All state volleyball tourneys begin Friday and conclude Saturday.

Area runners compete at the state 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A cross country meets Saturday in Pocatello.

It’s a transitional week in high school football, with some teams done for the season, others wrapping up their regular seasons, still others in first-round playoff games, and even others with a bye this week, before their playoff openers next weekend.

In first-round playoff openers this week, Coeur d’Alene (5A) is home against Borah on Friday, Sandpoint (4A) travels to Emmett on Friday, Priest River (3A) is home vs. Weiser on Saturday, and St. Maries (2A) is home against Melba on Saturday.

Also in 2A openers this weekend, Orofino visits New Plymouth on Friday, and Grangeville plays at McCall-Donnelly on Saturday.

Lakeland (4A) has a first-round bye, and will play host to the Minico-Blackfoot winner next weekend in the quarterfinals. Timberlake (3A) also has a first-round bye, and will play host to either Homedale or Gooding next weekend. Lewiston (5A) has a first-round bye, and will play host to either Kuna or Rocky Mountain next weekend.

Our local teams in the White Star League wrap up their seasons this week, Lakeside playing host to Lewis County, and Kootenai home against Tekoa-Rosalia.

The North Idaho district swim meet is scheduled for Saturday at the University of Idaho pool in Moscow. State is the following weekend in Boise.

The North Idaho College women’s soccer team, which has already wrapped up a playoff berth, plays host to Community Colleges of Spokane in a battle for first place in the Eastern Region of the Northwest Athletic Conference on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eisenwinter Field in Coeur d’Alene.

Right after that, NIC’s men’s soccer team, which needs one win in its final two matches this week to make the playoffs, plays host to CC Spokane at 3:15 p.m.
