LIBBY — A Libby man is denying deliberate homicide charges in the death of 30-year-old Sheena Devine.

Trevor Joseph Mercier, 42, pleaded not guilty in Lincoln County District Court on Monday to the charge and requested a jury trial. The charge carries a sentence of 10 to 100 years in prison if convicted. An omnibus hearing was scheduled for Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m.

One of his three attorneys, Noel K. Larrivee, noted that the defense had filed a number of motions, including a request for a mental health exam for his client.

“He can go to the state hospital [for an exam] before a plea, but he’s prepared to go forward,” Larrivee said. “He’s anxious to facilitate this matter.”

“There’s issues in regard to self harm,” he added.

The case has been sealed and District Court Judge James Wheelis continued an order from Justice Court Judge Jay Sheffiled that keeps legal counsel or law enforcement from commenting about the case.

Mercier is being held on a $1 million bond.
