LAW ROUNDUP: Drug dealer? Sorry, the jail is full

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office heard from a man who called to “respectfully request” that a resident with suspected drug traffic onto and off a Hungry Horse property should be arrested. The dispatcher assured the caller that authorities knew about the alleged problems and confirmed that there were multiple misdemeanor warrants out for the resident’s arrest. The dispatcher explained that due to a shortage of space in Flathead County Detention Center, the county was not able to lodge the alleged criminal. The caller said he understood the situation.

Dispatchers took a report from U.S. 93 near Whitefish, where a man reported that eight storage units had been burglarized.

A deputy put a Columbia Falls man in touch with the County Attorney’s Office. The man had been denied when he tried to buy a gun because of a partner/family member assault conviction. The man was told to contact the attorney’s office to check on the status of his criminal record.

A man was told that it was not appropriate for him to use sheriff’s deputies to harass the mother of his children after he allegedly called the sheriff’s office 24 times and requested seven welfare checks on the young children in Columbia Falls, none of which uncovered any valid complaints.

Someone off U.S. 2 in Kalispell reported that he or she had video of someone climbing through a fence and making off with some tires.

A knife, tools, flashlights, and other items were reported stolen from Old River Bridge Road in West Glacier.

A man on Klondyke Loop in Somers asked if he could legally put cameras up in his yard. He wanted to find out which furry four-legged trespasser kept using his yard as a potty.

A man called from Kalispell to report that someone with a Louisiana address had allegedly charged $1,600 to his PayPal account in February.

A deputy told parties involved that they should divide property in their divorce in an amicable manner after a man complained that his ex-wife had pulled up to a storage unit screaming “the cops are coming” before driving off. The man had been cleaning out the storage unit with his new wife.

A woman on Solberg Drive whose car window was broken out at the end of September, with several items stolen, reported that Spokane authorities had recovered some of her missing property.

A man was cited for going 90 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone. The man claimed that he was only traveling 70 mph, but the deputy noted that a body camera caught the whole thing on video.

A deputy found that no physical altercation or theft had occurred on Shadow Wood Drive after a woman reported that her boyfriend and brother were allegedly stealing items off a porch. All three involved parties told the deputy that there had been a drunken disagreement earlier in the night, but all was allegedly fine.

Someone reported that he or she hit a bear on U.S. 2 East in Columbia Falls, but did not want to remove it from the roadway in case it came back to life. A second driver then hit the bear, possibly damaging that vehicle. The bear was eventually removed from the roadway.


Whitefish Police advised a man about proper driving behavior after he was reported as driving erratically on U.S. 93.


Columbia Falls Police told a woman to apply for a no-contact order after someone allegedly sent her a letter full of threats and satanic symbols.


Kalispell Police took a drunken man to the hospital after a friend allegedly had to sit on his chest after he allegedly busted out some windows on Yellowstone Street.

A woman called from Northwest Lane to report that her cellphone had been stolen.
