LAW ROUNDUP: Spending habits create quarrel, but not a crime

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office took a call from a woman in Choteau, alleging that her husband in Hungry Horse had been using her debit card without permission. A deputy explained that as long as they were still married, the money in the bank account belonged to both of them and it did not sound like a crime had been committed.
A deputy responded to Elk Trail in Whitefish, where a woman reported that someone had been in her shop. She was not sure if anything had been taken.
A Kila woman was referred to the Spay and Neuter Task Force after she complained that three cats had been abandoned and were killing baby birds.
A woman called from Hungry Horse to report that two people had opened accounts with a cell phone provider using her Social Security number. The woman had not authorized the new accounts.
Someone reported that a check for $1,200 had been stolen from Whitefish and appeared at a bank in Kalispell, written without the account holder’s permission.
The window of a vehicle was broken out on Shady Lane and items were reportedly taken.
Whitefish Police noted that no one was injured in a crash at Park Knoll Lane.
Someone reported that a car was illegally parked in a handicap parking spot on Texas Avenue.
Columbia Falls Police responded to 12th Avenue West, where a woman said that another lady had crossed the parking lot and hit her in the face. The woman then allegedly hit her assailant in self defense. No one wanted to pursue charges.
A woman called for help after she called her daughter in California and found an unknown person on the end of the line. The person allegedly said, “I just killed your daughter.” Authorities in California were contacted.
Extra patrol was conducted on South Veteran Drive after someone complained that a man who looked odd was hanging around.
A man was taken to the hospital after he reported that someone in a bar had sliced his finger open with a knife.
Officers were called to Eighth Avenue East North where someone had reported two men fighting. Authorities found that two dogs had gotten into a scuffle, but there was no disagreement between the humans.
Kalispell Police took a report from Seventh Avenue East North, where a man thought he might have interrupted an attempted burglary involving two men in hoodies who were looking through his windows. The man had a weapon, but said he did not point it at the individuals during the incident.
A mirror was ripped off a vehicle on Third Avenue East.
A man called to report that his ex-girlfriend was destroying his property and that her new boyfriend had allegedly slashed his tires.
