SANDPOINT — Local shoppers are blessed with numerous opportunities to purchase amazing artwork from a number of different galleries in the area. Last week, one more gallery opened its doors and with it comes a unique look at how wood can become art.

Leading the efforts of the new gallery, Custom Cabin Creations, 201A N. First Ave., are the dynamic duo of Corey Obenauer and Tony Frontado.

Combined, the two have more than 30 years experience in developing amazing creations from wood.

Obenauer has had his creations displayed in the National Art Show in Denver, Colo., as well as at Safari International in Las Vegas, Nev. He lives in Sagle with his wife, Kimberly, and his son, Aiden, 4 months.

Frontado, on the other hand, is probably most recognized for his log furniture which graced his home along Highway 95, just north of Ponderay.

“We like to build from all kinds of natural woods with natural edges,” said Obenauer.

The pair describe their pieces as heirloom furniture that will last generations. They can also custom build anything you can imagine, turning your vision into reality.

Custom Cabin Creations officially opened its doors Oct. 25, and plans to hold a grand opening celebration at the gallery in the near future.

“We are very appreciative to be part of downtown Sandpoint and plan to get involved and get to know other downtown business owners,” said Obenauer.

“Downtown brings more foot traffic and critical mass which will help our business,” Frontado added.

Custom Cabin Creations is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and plans to expand to holiday hours, open 11 a.m.-5 p.m., on Sundays after Thanksgiving.

Not enough food? You must be kidding

Isn’t it sad that in today’s day and age, with all the conveniences we have, some local residents are going hungry? What’s even more tragic to me is the thought that a child is going to bed hungry.
