Cards in hunt after first day of tourney

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The North Idaho College men are in second place, and the Cardinal women are third, after the first day of the Walla Walla Invitational on Sunday at Wine Valley Golf Club.
NIC’s men shot 287, nine strokes back of Walla Walla. Cardinals Sean Langham, Ross Gilbert and Preston Nelson are tied for eighth after shooting even-par 72. Lars Malinen of Walla Walla leads by two shots after shooting 66. Preston Roth (ex-Lakeland High) of Community Colleges of Spokane shot 74.
NIC’s women shot 248, four strokes back of Lewis-Clark State and one behind Southwestern Oregon. Madi Brown of NIC is tied for third after shooting 79, two strokes back of the co-leaders. Haley Rotchford and Megan Cysewski of CC Spokane, both former Lakeland Hawks, shot 84 and 88, respectively.
The tourney concludes today.
