POST FALLS — A 32-year-old Airway Heights, Wash., man was arrested Saturday night on multiple charges after allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle from a restaurant parking lot.

Joshua Goble was arrested for attempted grand theft, tampering with a vehicle, burglary, petit theft, unlawful entry and obstructing an officer. He was being held at the Kootenai County jail on Wednesday on a $35,000 bond.

Police responded to the Timber Gastro Pub restaurant at 1610 E. Schneidmiller Ave. at 9:18 p.m. for a male attempting to steal a blue Honda Civic from the parking lot. A citizen who recognized that someone other than the owner was in the car called police.

"The male was bent over pulling items out out of the glove box," a police report states.

The report states Goble had to be physically be removed from the car despite being told at gunpoint to exit.

Goble told police he was rummaging through the glove box because the vehicle's title had been transferred fraudulently and he had planned to compromise the car's alarm system to start the vehicle.

The car's owner later arrived and told police he had never seen Goble before.

Police found several items inside the car — including photo albums, shoes, clothes, a battery jump box and paintings — that had been in an unlocked Ford Focus parked next to the Civic.

The owner of the Focus, who works at Timber, told police he hadn't placed the items in the Civic, leading police to suspect Goble had stolen them before attempting to flee in the Civic.

The Civic's owner told police his key would no longer turn the ignition as it had been tampered with.

During the investigation, Goble allegedly displayed erratic behavior, kicking, screaming and slamming his head into the cage inside the patrol car.

"His comments became more and more delusional and he became increasingly angry," the report states.

A padded helmet was placed on Goble's head to prevent further abrasions, according to police.

Goble had just been booked into the local jail on Aug. 15 on a charge for possession of drug paraphernalia before he was released.
