Judy Meyer announced she is seeking another term on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

“NIC has great momentum right now and I want to continue the progress” she said. “We have a new president, the completion of the Career Technical building, the student rec center under construction and plans in place for the new joint-use building, the college is positioned for the next 50 years of growth. I am determined to continue and extend our cooperative efforts with our education partners — the U of I and LCSC — to expand the four-year degree opportunities in Coeur d’Alene. The board is committed to expanding our professional/technical programs and we selected Dr. MacLennan to be our new president because of his strong experience to lead that effort."

Meyer served on the NIC Board from 1990 to 1994 until she was appointed by the governor to the State Board of Education. She was elected president of the State Board of Education in 1998. She was elected to the NIC Board again in 2002, 2008 and 2012.

Meyer’s experience in board governance work is extensive. She was elected to the board of directors of Blue Cross of Idaho in 1993 and served until 2002. She served on the Coeur d’Alene Chamber Board of Directors. She is a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Library Network, which has now grown to be the second largest library system in Idaho. She was a founder and board member of Hospice of North Idaho. In 2001, she was appointed to the board of the Idaho State Historical Society where she served 12 years and is now an emeritus member. In 2002 she was awarded the President’s Medallion from Lewis Clark State College for her contributions to education in Idaho. In 2004, the University of Idaho awarded her the President’s Medallion for her leadership in promoting excellence in education in Idaho. Meyer is on the Idaho Public Television advisory board. Recently she and her husband were inducted into the state of Idaho Hall of Fame for their community service. Meyer is a founding member and regional vice-chair of Idaho Business for Education, a statewide group of CEOs focused on improving education in Idaho.

Meyer and her husband, Steve, started Parkwood Business Properties in 1975. Parkwood is a commercial real estate developer building office, industrial, medical, retail, self storage and hospitality facilities in the Coeur d’Alene area.

“When we recruit businesses to this area, one of the first questions is about the education opportunities and the capabilities of possible employees," Meyer said. "I think the path to employment success and community well being is through our education system.

“I believe in NIC and I have high expectations for the college.”

The college trustee election is nonpartisan, and it will appear on the General Ballot Nov. 8. The college board positions are now based on five recently established zones in Kootenai County. All voters vote for all positions.
