Lawrence “Larry” George Meier, 84, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016. He was born on Nov. 5, 1931, in Portland, Ore. He was raised in the Spokane, Wash., area, His mother, Pearl (Ferry) worked in the local Goodwill store and his father, George Meier worked for the railroad. He is the second child with six brothers and one sister.
After graduation from Rogers High School in 1950, he began a jeweler apprenticeship at Teneff Jewelry Mfg. He enlisted in the United States Navy on Dec. 26, 1950, and was honorably discharged on March 12, 1952. He served as chaplain while in the Navy. He attended Northwest College. Larry married Julie Eliason on Aug. 25, 1951, in Spokane.
Larry was a master jeweler, specializing in special design work and diamond setting for 45 years prior to his retirement in November 1994.

He continued to be a supply pastor for years after 1972. Larry felt called to pastor smaller, struggling churches, and in most cases helped to construct or remodel church buildings and parsonages. He made it a practice to never accept compensation for his services. He provided for his family by working side jobs doing carpentry, making cabinets and working for the airlines. He was recognized for 50 years of service as an ordained minister in the General Council of the Assemblies of God in April 2011.
Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, and building projects with wood such as cabinets and bookcases. He especially loved listening to steel guitar music — he even took steel guitar lessons and played steel guitar himself. He was the chaplain for two consecutive years for the Northwest Steel Guitar Convention held annually in Spokane. Larry was a man of faith who lived his life serving others.
