Old Hotel Art Gallery launches 'Stash for Cash'

OTHELLO — The Old Hotel Art Gallery is offering a new way for friends of the gallery to continue or increase their support. Friends are the life’s blood of the Gallery.
The new item for sale is fabric for quilts and possibly sewing projects. The project encourages people with fabric without a use to put it up for sale (minus a small commision) or donating it to the Gallery.
“We started a quilting class in July (and were reminded) that there is no place to buy fabric here,” said Gallery Director Jenn Stevenson.
Stevenson noted The Old Hotel Art Gallery will celebrate its 41st anniversary on Halloween. It was started by three business women, one of which is still on the board of directors.
“They did it to have an outlet for art and artists in the community,” Stevenson said. “The focus now is on selling arts and crafts.”
One of the biggest sources of funding is the Gallery’s annual auction. It will be held on Oct. 22 this year at Evergreen Implement. The theme will be masquerade.
“We’d like everybody to dress up. Masks are optional,” Stevenson said.
The auction includes a buffet dinner and local wine tasting. The dinner and silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. The live auction will kick off at 8 p.m.
One of the more attractive auction items, straight from Disney, will be 4 park hopper tickets for Disneyland and California Adventure. They are valued at $620.
“There probably will be Seahawk packages and getaways,” Stevenson said.
Other ways the Old Hotel Gallery supports itself is through the sale of Killian Korn, Bee’s Rub and Tart is Smart cherries.
The Old Hotel Art Gallery is on the list of approved projects to be funded by the Heritage Capital Projects for $56,000. This is a fund for historical & heritage sites in Washington state that is funded with $10 million every every 2 years by the state legislature.
The Old Hotel Gallery is the sponsor of the art contest at the Sandhill Crane Festival. Normally there are between 100-150 participants. Last year the contest had more than 600.
The Gallery also sponsors Art in the Park. Those are free art projects once a month at the Farmer’s Market.
The Gallery does the Pop Up Museum at The Adams County Fair, other free community art projects and year round art classes.
