BAYVIEW — A 6-year-old girl was fatally injured Tuesday in a crash on Bayview Road, according to Idaho State Police.

State police said Brittney D. Bullock was westbound when she lost control of her 1998 Honda Accord. The vehicle went off the westbound shoulder and struck several trees.

Bullock, 28, of Bayview, and her two passengers, 11- and 6-year-old girls, were taken to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene. The 6-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to ISP.

Nobody in the vehicle was wearing seat belts, state police said in a news release.

The crash happened in the 2900 block at approximately 8:07 a.m. The vehicle had just entered Bonner County when the crash occurred, ISP said.

The contents of the car suggested its occupants were en route to school.

“There were backpacks and lunch boxes,” said Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS Capt. Reny Hansen said.

Tuesday marked the first day of classes for students in the Lake Pend Oreille and Kootenai County school districts, although it was not immediately clear where the trio was headed.

Hansen said a seatbelt could have saved the 6-year-old’s life.

“There’s a good chance the injuries would have been sustainable,” said Hansen.
